Angel's Breath

a frosty morning visitor

As morning bid adieu to night

I witnessed an angelic site,

a cherub in the birthing dawn

hop-hop-hopping across the lawn.

*

A woolen cap upon her head

with bunny ears of rosy-red,

her rounded cheeks, a pinkish hue

that matched her coat and moon boots too.

*

Along the frozen ground she danced

a squirrel watching, in a trance.

I heard her sing upon the breeze

that whispered through the glistening trees.

*

Her laughter came in puffs of silk

that twirled in air like frothing milk.

I heard her mama call her name

“Come, Angel. You must end your game.”

*

“It’s time we bless the coming day

and then we must be on our way.”

She ran into her mama’s arms

Who smiled at her endearing charms.

*

A frosty gust, then she was gone

though in the air, her song played on.

Her footprints left where she did pass,

Angel’s breath upon the grass.

What beautiful poetry! I loved the comparison of the breath in the air to frothy milk- it was such a strong image and very original. I also liked how we as the readers cannot be sure whether the cherub was a real child or a supernatural being. Fantastic work!
