False Shadows

Drench me in the cloaked dawn,

sunlight blocked from mountains peak,

a cooling fog plays the veil,

across my mouth; I cannot speak.

This skin is taut on brittle bones,

lungs burst from too much air,

I shiver through the chilling winds,

and do naught but stand and stare.

A razor sharp, a punctured wound,

runny red is warm and fast,

it trickles out my greatest woes;

the horrors of the past.

Bathed in darkness I lament my crime,

a vessel born of greed and strife,

this regret is but a foolish drug,

this cure, a cowards knife.

...

Where Mermaids Lie

Moonlight over water,

full and pearly white,

amongst the ocean blanket,

she slumbers for the night,

sinking deeper, deeper,

unto the sandy bed,

she buries further still,

to cure a weary head.

She is no enchantress,

she weeps no siren song;

still, she lures them closer

with a promise to belong,

she welcomes every daughter,

to float beneath the tide,

love-filled lungs do quiver,

asleep at mother's side.

...

A Fairy Dance in Mid-Winter

In an ever-frozen forest,

under shivering leaf and branch,

she dances with the snowdrops,

body numb from bitter cold,

twirling in the morn,

the noon, the eve and night,

prancing till her aching limbs

creak with brittle ice,

still, she never stops,

till exhaustion has its way;

shattering upon a frosty floor,

the snow, a shallow grave.

...

The Devil Wears a Smile

Keep watch, sweet youth is poisoned,

an evil plagues her mind,

though smiles rest 'pon cherub lips,

her soul is far from kind.

On a woodland bed she slumbers,

awaiting meek and mild,

a frame so small 'n' dainty,

they believe her for a child.

She has no need for mercy,

a sadist to the core,

pleasure born from wanton thirst,

her body cries for more.

Take heed, the winds will warn,

fickle fools never survive;

be cautious on your travels, dear,

and make it home alive.
