In the first moments of life, I understood what it meant

to experience the world with more than only one sense

The smell in the air, the bright lights and the sound

the magical feel of being swaddled and bound

My mama's sweet voice and the touch of her skin

my daddy's gruffness and the notch in his chin

All my senses ignited, and beauty unfurled

the moment I popped out, and into this world

love poems

I love the connection to the song. I felt sure it was going to be another knock-out-the-park affair and you never cease to amaze me. Just, beautiful, Kelli. You should be proud!

  • "...what a wonderful world." The title alone was so perfectly evocative of this story. Without knowing how you would frame it, & knew the mood & where you were heading. (I was so moved by reading your title, that I had to read it as soon as I'd opened a page for it, in spite of having twenty-one stories ahead of it!) We have this quote from Louis Armstrong in wrought iron hanging in our living room. It warms the cockles of my heart every time I see it (which is often). Thank you for the reference & the beautiful way you framed it.
