Ancient oak

History

By Vicki LucasPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

Oh twisted oak, centuries old, standing all alone

Branches stretching to the skies, so much nature calls you home

Your lofty limbs, impressive trunk, you stand so tall and proud

The bark that does protect you, covers like a shroud

If you could speak, what would you say of all the years gone past?

I bet you have so many tales, from standing in that grass

Of lovers taking picnics, beneath your mighty branches

Taking solace from the sun, whilst time quickly dispatches

Of Kings gone by, of warriors that used to roam this land

Of enemy’s killed, or traitors, vanquished by sword or hand

Of farmers tending cattle, of peasants or royalty

Of families in gardens supping on their tea

Of burials, weddings, birthdays, .... rituals and more

I bet you have so many tales of things, from days of yore

Those ones that are forgotten, as the people they have died

I wish I knew the secrets that nature often hides
