This is dedicated to anyone in an abusive relationship. You can become unanchored.
Chest collapsing
Breathing unfathomable
Squirming and writhing
At the bottom of the ocean.
//
Pressure squeezes all organs
Light pierces the ocean above
The swim is difficult through icy depths
The warmth of the anchor squeezes
//
Golden and embossed with jewels
The anchor promises safety
Beneath the depths of the turbulent sea
The anchor is sturdy and immovable
//
Breath deprived mind awakens
Swimming up to fill aching lungs
Carrying the anchor it pulls against
Comfortable only in the drink
//
The swim to freedom can only be found unanchored.
