I had to sleep with the lights on when I was younger, owing to my fear of the obvious. My nyctophobia has faded but was overwhelming then.
For some of us, it can linger.

Fear nestles high,
In the dark sky overcast β
night devours day.

I think some innate fear of the dark lingers on in all of us - that sense of night devouring day
I can only imagine how difficult that would have been. So glad it has now faded
It felt like I was there with that kid afraid of the dark. Well-penned, Michelle!
