An Ode to small companions

For a friend's loss, but a celebration of memory

So small they seem when brought to this world,

They roll and tumble, their first act of being,

Large eyes open wide, like a new rose, their posture unfurled,

Small yet large stars for seeing and witnessing.

Both eyes meet, with curiosity and joy,

One the expressor, one the translator,

Tales to make as epic as Troy,

To become Lemaitre, these pleasures bound to a curator.

Both bipedal and four-legged grow, through the journey of time,

The elements brush past our existence, the coldness of the shore to the warmth of the sun,

No matter the obstacle, another mountain to climb, the companionship sublime,

A stick like a javelin thrown, descending like a crescent moon, retrieved for ascension.

Such bliss…, yet existence fragile, and those who live within,

A blissful shape inside one’s mind, now missing in reality,

Love and sorrow rooted in moments of ruin,

The world shares such beauty, yet such cruelty.

And yet, no grief is absolute,

For though they are not here,

They remain embedded in our heart, resolute,

To relive timeless moments, eternally cherished so dear.

The celestial light of the sun welcomes the new day,

Their spirit with us, emboldens us with flame,

Their face, with both stars draw deep for another play,

For another life to meet again on a higher plane.

I am a person who believes in individual expression, after recent years, I have lost yet gained so much, becoming more and more intrigued by what the world has to offer. Writing helps reflect on this, and I hope to show new perspectives.

For this poem, the inspiration came rather from a somber place, my friend had lost a dear companion. The only way I thought to help keep her memory sacred to her was through poetry, bringing a lasting memory within a few lines.
