An Illusion in Disguise

A Poem...

By Charles Van VoorhisPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

We have so many poor

Rapping on the door

When will thee let ye in

Greed is only a deadly sin

Our destitute ways tugging on your soft parts

Listen to the collective rhythm of our thumping hearts

We are not wanting in, but to only show you where we’ve been

What we’ve come to learn , about the light within

Without the drive to secure material excess

Your ways we strive to never acquiesce

Green paper is NOT the path to true happiness

Rather the means to make the many even more ravenous

We see your passions of an avarice intent

As we lie and wait and lament

What is it that makes your consciousness different from ours?

We wonder, as we lie and wait under the stars

As thee answer slips onto our consciousness

The relief sends me into a state of somnolence

Utter joy and the warmth of love ensue

I hope you’re finally coming to

I hope not, that you may be confused or bemused

Feel not ambivalent, but catching onto the clues

That is, coming to realize

All of which I despise

Is nothing more than an illusion in disguise
