An Enemy of Love

Hate is a strong word, but...

Despair,

Why must you kill my smile?

Why must you take my face?

Why have you trapped my mind?...

and taken my heart?

You're a very public enemy,

but such a master of disguise‐

affecting every thought I speak,

and every word I write,

even teaching me, your art of hiding.

You're a very personal enemy too...

A topic that continues to visit, and revisit me,

attacking me in secrecy.

I know that hate is a strong word...

but still to weak to describe the effect you've had on me,

the burden you've been,

and what hurdles you've summoned before me‐

and, you know...

I really hate to write to about you...

the sight of you...

and every night with you...

how you follow me, everywhere.

If were fast enough to run away,

I would have,

and without looking back‐

but everywhere I go...

there you are‐

always showing up uninvited

to the wrong time and place,

hiding your hideous face

from everyone but me.

*sigh*

You know,

hate is a strong word...

but not strong enough to describe how I feel about you,

the feelings you bring out of me,

or how you take what's beautiful, and paint it bleak‐

the attitudes you produce,

dark fantasies,

and of all the thoughts, wants and wishes you write in my handwriting.

You attack my identity, daily‐

take all enjoyment away from me

and bring ruin to all of my interests‐

I know hate is a strong word, but

I hate you.

You're an enemy of love,

and so, an enemy of me too.

About the Creator

Josh Morgan

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
