Papa, Papa, come and see

there's a beautiful doll underneath the tree

Could I play with it, can't I have a little glee

"Give the girls their little joy to cherish. A bounty each their own"

But Papa, Papa, see her shine

to play with her would be mighty fine

can't my sisters have one of mine?

"Girls have sugar, spice and everything nice, boys have nails and puppy dog tails"

Oh Papa, Papa, don't you know

girls aren't only sweet, they're a lot more

boys don't always become men to fight in our wars

things just aren't the same anymore
