No matter the mess or how hurt you are

No matter the trauma and numerous battle scars

Or the persistent pain that never seems to leave

He chooses to stay, to stay always

You expect he’ll get annoyed or bored and then go

Tired of your many highs and deep lows

That he’ll get fed up with you and your quirky ways

Yet still, he stays with you always

But the thing that you don’t see or yet know

Is that deep in his heart is a love that grows

For you, his sweet and lovely broken bird

Who thought that nobody listened, that nobody heard

The cry in your heart to be loved and belong

And for once you wouldn’t have to sing all the sad songs

To have someone who stayed, who saw right through

All the torment and pain which almost destroyed you

But Someone did hear and sent him your way

And he saw what no one else did while you were caught in the fray

The beauty, strength, and love in your charitable heart

Despite how hard life tried to tear you apart

He saw your compassion, warmth, and tenacity

To see the oppressed healed and finally set free

For you gave from your heart, with love deep as the sea

Not asking for much in return, just for others’ liberty

And the beauty which many had so long overlooked

Charm and compassion which had him so quickly hooked

Made it easy for him to love you and want to stay
