Alternate Reality

Haunted by What Could Have Been

By ZarkoshiPublished 4 months ago 1 min read

Everything stopped

At this moment

You were talking

I was frozen

Everything stopped

The street was busy

For me .. it stopped

There is lots of chatter in the place

For me .. it stopped

My heartbeat .. stopped

You did not say any harm

But my world collapsed with one answer from you

Everything shattered to pieces

My heart was aching

You didn’t notice .. I didn’t make you notice

First drink, second drink, third, fourth .. stopped counting

First cigarette, second cigarette, third, fourth .. couldn’t keep up

Said our goodbyes and we split apart at the corner

I had a quick glimpse over my shoulder at you

Walking away

Thinking what could have been

Stopped .. raised my eyes .. looked up to the sky

The trees were moving quietly

I kept on looking to the sky

Standing in the middle of the street

My world has stopped for a moment

I can hear my breath

The world keeps moving

I should move

You moved

Our worlds never collided

It has always been .. what could it be

Nothing happened .. your absence is your presence

You are always here

But never with me

About the Creator

Zarkoshi

I laugh loudly and write quietly — both keep me alive.

Every poem is a moment I’ve lived and never quite escaped. Laughter heals me, writing remembers me — a small attempt to leave a mark in this chaotic life.
