AFRICA'S BREASTS ARE SUCKLED DRY

Poem

Just like a neglected mother, Africa is bleeding

Her soul ripped apart and thrown to the hyenas

Her kids also raped and left to the vultures to feast

And she wails to the emptiness of the universe

Wondering why even some of her children have joined those who violate her

Her oldest now enslaves her grandchildren

She watches as they wander through the land seeking providence

Hearts shattered, minds ill and families broken

She turns her head and weeps to the folds of her skirts

Because she knows not who to tell that her children are starving her grandchildren

Her wails now turn into mourning

Who will she tell that her youngest had to fight the sibling to be free?

And now that he’s free he has started fighting his own children?

She wails louder and even louder still

Because she wonders how long her children will suckle her breasts

Just to spit in her grandchildren’s faces
