My love has drifted far from me
Far from this safe port she flounders
Drowning in a wave tossed stormy sea
Afloat in an ocean of doubt
Adrift on a shoddy raft
Bailing insecurities with every shout
Behind her I swim with a life preserver
She adamantly refuses to don
Because she doesn’t believe I deserve her
Too much gossip, so many lies
Infecting her perceptions with evil
Spread from mouths of jealous guys
Yes, I have a past
As all of us do
But this relationship was made to last
How do I pull her back to shore?
Hold her head above the frothing waters?
Convince her I only want her evermore?
I’ll shuck this armor of confidence I’m wearing
Dive beneath the surface to reach her
Drown myself in her to prove I’m truly caring
Bare my soul
Show every scar
Pray she’ll make me whole

The yearning and heartache is sooo palpable. How have you been doing, King Andrew?

Wow, sir. This is a phenomenal piece of writing. Really love the strength of the metaphor running through it because when relationships hit troubled waters, it can feel like being cast into the wilds of the sea. I found it sad but beautiful, as poetry so often can be. Well done.
