ADDRESS TO A CONDOM

Please don't break your faith in you.

Photograph: Giuseppe Bartoli, Paris, 2018.

O you! Made of ribbed rubber

how softly you stroke my lover

in places where I cannot reach.

Your stroking looks like such a skill,

as if you had all the time to kill

before making her beseech.

O you! Please don’t break my faith in thee

by continuing to cling to me,

as your presence causes her to undress.

And though you can’t see what I do:

Buddha reincarnated you to screw,

as she moans each time we press.

O you! Faithful friend of the night

who only lives in the absence of light:

Stay fastened until we reach our destination

for in you, I’ll burst all my longing

as you’re my only piece of clothing.

Bringing two souls to a “safe” celebration.

O you! Who’s suffered such hard times

sacrificing your life behind enemy lines?

I dedicate these simple words

because you were my last defense,

knowing my penis lacks common sense.

O you, Condom: too bad I bore you backward!
