Addicts We All Are

No Better; No Less

By Hannah HooperPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Who is an addict; in a sense,

It’s someone who uses a substance,

A substance to dispense.

Dispense the emotional volcano so intense.

Substance used above and beyond,

Used in a way not intended; a way that is wrong.

Not ill intentions for most users,

Coping; masking issues makes life easier.

Are we a select few abnormal souls,

Born into irregular family roles?

Are we “messed up” in the head,

Born with low intelligence instead?

Or are we like every other person,

Addicted to something; all of us.

some substances illegal; some worse.

Weighted as different; some are cursed.

Yet, the same we are,

No better; no less,

All dealing with the same smothering dark

Darkness that needs to be addressed.

Judgement should be dismissed,

Be grateful if you have been blessed.

Not to have had to struggle with,

Those that do please don’t dismiss.
