Abbey

thought for food

There's a bookstore in Paris

Where the aisles & the walls

Are stacked to the brim with books,

Books old & new,

Books on art & history,

Fiction & non fiction,

There I found a book

Hidden in a corner,

With glue about to give way

On the hard bound cover,

Someone from the 1880s

Annotated it in pencil,

Their own little poems,

Thoughts & insights

Far more grand

Than anything

I'll ever write,

And even though

I didn't have the money

to even buy breakfast

the next morning,

I scrounged together

My remaining euros,

And took that little book

Home with me

performance poetry
