they told me,

it takes time...

but there are no words strong enough

to circumvent truth

strong enough to break me into pieces

that don't recognize you

before the sound of your voice

before I saw your face

I was called in golden starlight

to a certain place and time

captivated by an intelligence

that bore through my logic

building fires to warm my soul

a house is not a home

a home isn't just a location

and you are the only place

I feel safe enough to rest

and boy, am I weary

speak in tongues to my mental anguish

contemplating anxiety like it's calculus

and I've never excelled in mathematics

but verbal acrobatics

sing spirit songs in beautiful words

that peel the protective coating

off my pain

my scars laid bare

and I, unafraid, let you graze them

with the love that lingers

in warm kisses

emancipated from cell blocks locked

and loaded always waiting for a riot

that never came

but hurricane preparedness saves lives

and I wasn't ready to die...yet

your skin

on my...skin

made stars from dust

and sense out of a life that always felt...

less than

by your side

there is nothing more

there is no less than

there is...

only love

it seeps into my being beneath every breath

hidden in light particles

that dance with my shadows

where even our demons ascend

into the only peace that

has ever existed

it takes time, they said

since when do the foolish heed warnings

since when does wisdom beat fate

baby, I am ever the fool

that takes but a moment

to know there are no words strong enough

to circumvent truth

strong enough to break me into pieces

that don't recognize you
