The joy of receiving

It was a glorious Christmas Day,

He had nothing to be happy about.

The skies were dark and grey,

It was just another old day.

The Church Bells were ringing,

The choirs were happily singing.

The Christ child was born today,

The World was blessed in every way.

It was just another Christmas Day,

He had nothing to be joyful about,

Since he lost his home and his family,

In the blaze that changed his life forever,

He lost his will to live, it destroyed his spirit,

He silently wished that he would see the light,

Silently saving, shiny and bright.

It was five years now and he was different.

A far cry from the pompous man he used to be,

He now understood life as he lived in poverty.

It was difficult getting a proper job,

While he lived on the dark streets.

Life was tough for him, but he did not care,

As he slept in the cold without sheets.

It was not going to be just another Christmas,

He was going to have a Christmas wish.

He was hungry, so he needed something to eat,

He was tired as he trudged with his bare bruised feet.

A restaurant had its trash cans filled to the brim,

He was hungry, while the leftovers looked so grim.

It was then that this broken man’s life was changed,

His destiny was re-designed and gifted to him.

He picked up a grey oyster shell from the waste,

He wondered what would be the taste.

As he opened the tightly clamped shell,

And opened his mouth to have a taste,

He saw the most amazing sight he had ever seen.

In the oyster shell was a large pearl, so precious,

His life changed and it was better than it had ever been.

Everyone welcomes Christmas and a Christmas fortune,

As he sang a Christmas carol with a jolly, lively tune.
