A Warm Christmas

poem for the flame challenge

Warmth enveloped me for what seemed like the first time

Closure never seemed quite so gentle like this flame

Burning with a reddish and orange glow with a mix of key-lime

I followed that flame without giving it any blame

We burned so brightly at first

I lost sight of what it meant to be cold

Blind to the fact I was dying of thirst

Blind to my crumbling stronghold

This time was different though

The flames flickered, gently hugging

The way a grandparent does after many years, a certain glow

My heartstrings always tugging

When it was time to let go

I let that flame engulf my memories this year

Maybe it helped lessen the blow

Sitting by that Christmas fireplace feeling the flames holiday cheer
