A Voice of Pain

the one who stayed to protect me

Hey,

I am so sorry.

Sorry for everything I’ve ever made you feel.

I know I’m intense. I feel awful about it.

But I never meant to hurt you.

I only ever wanted to help—

help you grow,

help you succeed,

help you see you.

And to do that,

you had to work through me.

But you did it—

beautifully.

..

We fought plenty.

You stumbled.

You screamed at me.

But still—you showed up.

Look at who you become.

Look at how much you've grown.

..

You value your life now.

I remember when you almost gave it up—

because of me.

I'm so sorry I hurt you,

over and over again.

I'll always carry that.

..

But I'm proud of us,

proud that we can finally speak like this.

You and me, in conversation—

its beautiful.

You are beautiful.

..

We still bicker,

maybe even more some days,

but you always come out wiser.

We've grown together,

figuring it out as we go.

..

I'll always be sorry.

And I'll always love you.

..

I hope you know—

I never came to harm you with cruelty.

I've always had your back.

..

Love,

Pain

I wasn't expecting that sign off at the end, but it makes perfect sense. My heart hurt reading, but there is a reason for pain. An incredible poem, Emmie. Right in the feels 😞
