Growing up in a town filled with hate,
Makes it harder to see in color.
To view the world in more than black and white.
And sometimes red.
Red of blood.
Anger.
Flames.
For eighteen years,
This was all she saw.
But after that eighteenth year,
She saw more color than she had ever seen before.
Once she began to explore her town,
And began to shift her perspective,
She saw the pink in the cheeks of the hopeful youth.
She saw blue in the lake filled with memories.
Green in the trees that continue to grow,
Despite everything else.
And just like that,
She realized
Coming from hate
Teaches you love.
Teaches you to see in more than black and white,
If you’re willing to learn.
Where you come from does not define you.
But where you come from holds more color than you think.
