A Thief In The Night

You only take, never give... -and wound, never do you heal.

Despair,

Why must you continue to toy with me?

Taunting me with your horrendous laughter‐

at the second the sun sets,

your blistering cold darkness surrounds me

bringing rain to my pillow with no relief‐

you stand between me, and‐

everything, really.

A thief in the night‐

you've killed my dreams,

and taken hostage, what little, minimal, peace there was left,

keeping me far, far away from any kind of rest,

keeping me in the presence

of slumber's absence,

and void's company.

Like a thief in the night‐

you come, seeking only to destroy

leaving no room for joy,

toying with every heart you encounter.

Your evil laughter echoes in the tears that come in contact with the floor‐

the storms you brew is how your mark is made,

and the floods you create are your calling card‐

taking everything, really

and leaving behind nothing but an echo of your presence‐

sights of sorrow and sounds of horror,

lightless nights, cries of war and all the like.

Despair, you are nothing more

than a thief in the night.

About the Creator

Josh Morgan

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
