A Thief In My Heart

Desire, you have forever been, and you will forever be... -my enemy.

Desire,

you are forever my enemy‐

having taken my heart,

turning it inside out,

and turning it against me‐

one of many which was a friend to me,

until you came to change its color.

Words cannot describe the burden you've been to me,

or the turmoil you continue to twist inside my mind‐

the fire you burn within me is not one of passion

but a hurtful fury.

A thief in my heart,

which you've painted black‐

and a fire in my mind,

in which your torment is always burning.

Desire,

I cannot stand you standing before me‐

holding me hostage in such a state of longing.

Your presence alone mocks me,

your entire being teases me,

holding all hope and peace just outside of my reach.

You grant all but one of my dangerous wishes,

because getting rid of me,

would mean getting rid of you too‐

so in your torture you continue,

planting right before my eyes

all I can't have,

and keeping my heart

in the ugly grip of your sin‐saturated hands.

Desire,

there is no end to the burn of your torment‐

the horrors you host in my chest,

nor the torture you force upon my mind‐

you are such a villain,

that everything you touch either burns away,

or turns against me‐

like my heart...

in which you are nothing more than just another thief

that continues to take from me...

everything.

Forever my enemy.

About the Creator

Josh Morgan

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
