I would not trade the sorrows of my heart for the fleeting joys of the crowd, nor would I wish for the tears of sadness that flow from every part of me to turn into laughter. I would rather my life remain a blend of a tear and a smile.

A tear, to cleanse my heart and grant me understanding of life's hidden secrets. A smile, to draw me closer to others of my kind and serve as a symbol of my reverence for the divine. A tear, to connect me with those who have broken hearts. A smile, to express my joy in simply existing.

I would prefer to die yearning and longing than to live weary and despairing. I want the hunger for love and beauty to dwell deep within my spirit. For I have seen those who are satisfied, and they are often the most wretched of people. I have heard the sighs of those who yearn and long, and it is sweeter than the sweetest melody.

When evening comes, the flower folds its petals and sleeps, holding onto its longing. At dawn, it opens its lips to meet the sun's kiss. The life of a flower is a dance between longing and fulfillment a tear and a smile.

The waters of the sea turn into vapor and rise, gathering to form a cloud. The cloud drifts over hills and valleys until it meets a gentle breeze and falls weeping to the fields, merging with brooks and rivers to return to the sea, its home. The life of a cloud is a cycle of parting and reunion a tear and a smile.

So too does the spirit separate from the greater Spirit to move through the world of matter, passing like a cloud over the mountains of sorrow and the plains of joy, until it meets the breeze of death and returns to the ocean of love and beauty to God.
