A Summer's Day

Time from a bygone era

Recalling days of youth in the summer

Cousins and friends, my young brother, and dogs

Exploring fields, forest, beyond our homes

Following creeks, rapids and finding bogs

*

Finding car cemeteries, wooden camps

All day in the sun, no care in the world

Exhausted but happy, feeling like champs

By sundown, we joined our parent’s world

*

Hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob

Filled our bellies, replenished our

Energy to jump in pool, play with Rob

Until came the evening hour

*

Roasting marshmallows by the cozy fire

Off to sleepy dreamland once we tire

nature poetry
