A Summer of Hustle

by Katarina Tyler

By Katarina TylerPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

a summer of hustle

of just caught the train

deep breath and think of you again again again

I work the morning

and you work the night

but there's a day in between we have a chance to get it right

both of us reaching out

separate speeding windows

planning things I know we’ll never do

I’m touching wind I hope

touches your face

end of the world but we still wrap it in lace

hoping there’s a lawn

on the other side of this heat

maybe the grass sings or it’s a pair of cool sheets

where I can study your soul

with a little more time

a little more rest and your eyes on mine

remembering your kiss

while i’m running up this hill

playing Orpheus always on the run from his guilt

scared to look back

scared to let go

scared to love you and scared to let you know

but it’s true we’re both running

it’s true that we’re brave

and it’s true the loving is so good this summer babe

love poems
