A Stranger’s Sacrifice
Heartfelt Thank You
Whitewashed, weathered tombstones laid out, perfectly aligned
In tranquil fields, emerald, green, personally assigned
A place of rest, kept for the fallen, for those they never met
Erected here to guarantee, that we never will forget
Smoothed surfaces exposed, to the seasons, as they pass
Neatly erected rows, in rich-green, manicured grass
The names are slightly faded, with respect, carved out in stone
A still, calming reminder, of the ones, who never made it home
They stand relentlessly reminding us, that freedom isn't free
Without their willing sacrifice, we would not have the rights to be
Free to live with freedoms, others died to hold onto
Cause freedom is alive, handed bravely down, to me and you

Very nice writing and a view of a great place. I know it is late but hope you had a nice Veteran's Day.
This was such a touching and emotional tribute! Wonderful work!
With Veteran's Day approaching, this is a poem that should be read everywhere (even if it wasn't approaching, it should be read, lifting our hearts to remember).
Very well said. And so absolutely true. Thank you.
Wow Kelli!!!.
A wonderful tribute and although I've never been to Arlington, I've felt this every time I've visited a memorial cemetery. Well done.
