A Step Beyond

Standing on the Edge

You step to the edge,

Your toes on the ledge.

As you peer into the chasm

Of the dreaded abyss,

Fear strikes in a spasm.

You have never felt

Anything like this.

Your courage melts

From gut churning fear.

Your path has brought you here,

The choice is clear:

To continue on,

To step beyond

Into the unknown,

Or remain here

Forever on this stone.

Your future bids you take

With faith that leap.

It’s just a step beyond.

Could it be a mistake?

How steep, how deep?

You must continue on.

To stay right here

Is not a choice,

Because the noise

That won't disappear

Within your head

Fills you with dread.

You forge ahead

Or stagnate here.

It's up to you.

Take that step into the blue.

And so you go.

And as you do

You find your shoe

Does not fall below

Into the deep,

But stays on solid ground,

Unlike what you see.

Your fear is unwound.

For some,

This illusion, this confusion,

Is overcome

By revision of decision.

The proof that you found

Builds your faith.

Just as a seed

Within the ground

Begins to sprout,

So you found out

That this step

Overcame your doubt,

And was all that you need.
