A Spiteful Chant

How many more mornings must I pray that you leave?... How many more nights must I beg for peace?...

Despair—

You've robbed me of my interests, passions, and joys‐

you've even taken away my own desire to breathe, to think, and my will to continue...

although at times I don't want them in me,

I just can't give them to you.

My life, is not yours to take,

Despair—

Listen to me...

I've given you nothing...

but you continue to play the role of The Thief,

each and every day and night...

a primary character in these Tales of Torment‐

and although you make me so desperately want to give up in this fight,

I just can't let you win.

Despair—

I must say, that I disagree with each and every thought you place in my mind,

every feeling to force upon my heart,

and how you weigh so heavily on each and every member of my body.

You certainly know how to play your part

as the villain in my story...

but it is not you who's writing,

and neither is it me, so...

I simply refuse to let YOU,

Despair

An Enemy of Love

claim any kind of victory.

I have to say,

although, I don't hate to admit that I hate...

YOU,

the sound of your voice,

and how well I recognize it.

I disagree with you,

Despair,

all that you are, all that you do,

and all of the doubt, and disbelief you breed.

I wish for you to leave...

only to wait for your return‐

a spiteful chant this has become.

The world around me says you're temporary‐

and I almost disagree with that...

almost...

when really, it is YOU with which I disagree,

all that you are, and all that you do‐

your lies, and all that you disguise.

How many more mornings?...

will be spent in mourning‐

How many more days?...

must I pray that you leave me be‐

How many more nights?...

must I beg for peace‐

a spiteful chant, these pleas have become.

About the Creator

Josh Morgan

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
