POVERTY THROUGH MY EYES
What is poverty, I hear you say?
What makes us survive on those dreary days?
It's the shadows of want cast upon the soul
When poverty's grip take its toll
And when dreams are suppressed by hunger's plight
On those days life looks like a tragic blight.
It's yearning for more among scarcity's reign
It's unseen struggles beneath the surface deep
Poverty's burden is indeed like a mountain steep.
It's the absence of plenty, an empty space
And during that time isolation is a bitter embrace.
Poor is still a person
They have a soul
But privileged forget that
Their words are cold
And among this a question arise:
What is the essence of humanity?
And answer to this shouldn't come as a surprise.
It's to humble oneself.
To give your life a purpose,
In the service of others to;
Those who seek help,
Those who need help,
Those who cannot do it alone.
And when we do this,
We gave a chance to ourselves
To see their smiles,
To share their tears,
To calm their fears,
And then only, hope flickers in hearts so frail,
Love's resilience becomes an unwavering sail.
But still here we are
Hot getting hotter,
Cold getting colder,
Land getting barer,
Oceans getting emptier,
Poor getting poorer,
Rich getting richer,
And we all wonder;
How could we do this?
And keep doing this to
Ourselves.
More often than not, we like to blame society,
But we are society
And that's the issue
We don't like to take responsibilities for the world's tragedies,
The melting and rising seas, the forest fires and burning trees,
We just stand inside and look out
But it's time to go outside and break out,
Of this notion
That the world is going to fix itself somehow. .
