A Song for Oshun

A Sonnet for the Orisha Oshun, River Goddess

Oshun, radiant goddess of rivers

First mortal woman named Ìyálóde

With your gentle blessing, each womb quivers

Your will makes ready new life’s small abode

You augment the fertility of minds

Filling them with precious inspiration

Loosing each wit from the dark doubt that binds

Rendering verdant imaginations

Fecundity flows from your sacred smile

As you aided Shango in world making

So do you endow words with grace and style

Of late, some are your sacred grove forsaking

Spare them the terrible flood of your wrath

Grant them, instead, a sorely needed bath!

Sonnet

Clever ending!! A bath instead of a flood.
