A Smooth Transition
… through which we tame a rough condition.

Where fibres fray,
and straightened grains are splintered
there’s an edge, roughly cut and jagged;
torn apart and broken;
crudely split and ragged…
‘a scratch’ if rudely spoken.
Where fingers play,
and subtle moves are hinted
there’s a rim, shaped to give good reason
to the curvature of lip;
rounded-off and even…
‘a catch’ for pleasure’s grip.
On edge we seek a smooth transition
through which we tame a rough condition.

A first impression has a lasting effect - it makes a notable difference. In a subtle way that’s who I am as a poet. A ‘first impression’ looking for the gentle ‘twist’ that draws attention to a novel observation.
