A Simple Splash

stretched in a different time

By BrenPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

in the dream

she beckoned,

i was dressed in a stale bed sweat

she wore her best fresh contempt

clothed in an ancient electric hate

hidden loosely

behind a thin veneer of impotent anger

a flicker of impatient reason

darted a thousand times

between and behind her cloudy eyes

within the space of a paranoid heartbeat

“walk with me.” she demanded

a threat veiled by it’s own pure simplicity

“why?” i half coughed, remaining still

unable to move

my reply was dead before it left my mouth

and there it wilted upon my silenced tongue

like a bad taste

scarcely a breath away

from it’s point of conception

she spoke again

her words

fell upon my deaf ears

maddened by my obtuseness

enraged by my lack of attention

she grabbed my upper arm forcefully

her long nails

wormed their way into my flesh

like baby knives

she yelled at me

"What is wrong with you?"

her fetid breath

ripped the skin from my face

this reverberated

"What is wrong with you?"

like a hellish metronome

and then i awoke

surreal poetry
