A Silent Grief

A silent grief creeps in my heart,

A shadow that never departs,

It steals my joy, it drowns my hope,

And wraps me in an endless mope.

The tears I shed, they fall like rain,

But they cannot wash away my pain,

For every drop that leaves my eye,

Brings back memories that make me cry.

The sun still shines, the birds still sing,

But I'm lost in this somber thing,

The world around me seems to fade,

As I am swallowed by this shade.

The laughter of children, the sound of love,

Once brought me warmth from above,

But now they only pierce my soul,

And make this sadness take its toll.

Oh, how I long to be set free,

From this sadness that's consuming me,

But until then, I'll wear this mask,

And hide behind a smile that won't last.

For deep within my heart I know,

That this sorrow won't let me go,

And though I try to fight it still,

This silent grief has me in its chill.
