A Sign on a Grave
In marked just a empty stone no verse no name

A Sign on a Grave
A sign near a grave says
“Sorry, this person is dead,”
No name to honor,
no life path to be read.
No birth, no death,
no tales to confide,
Just a nameless void
where truth must hide.
Was it a man,
or a woman
who they lay? That day?
Did they live here
Or far away?
Were they loved,
Or just forgotten,
or simply unknown?
The sign reveals nothing,
just cold and alone.
No flowers to bloom,
no mourner to weep,
A mystery buried,
in silence they sleep.
And so we move on,
with a questions
And answer unsaid,
all that we know
is this person is dead.

Poignant exploration of anonymity and forgotten lives.
So sad as if it could be an unknown soldier. Good job.
