Tethered

Missing something that isn’t even existent

Longing

So long, ain’t you tired of your persistence.

Don’t be naïve,

Nostalgia is just a form of hallucinations.

Take it from

The approbation of a psychiatric patient.

Why you clinging on to something

That ain’t good for you?

Those fond memories ain’t what you’ve

Really been through.

Just free your soul

And let it go.

Untether those ties that bind your mind

To the darkness that’s inside.

Unleash the knots anchored too tight

And let ‘em go.

Just let it go.

Stop your heart aching and soul shaking;

Your vitality ain’t for the taking.

Look straight ahead to the life you’re making;

Seize the moment and quit waiting.

You’re stronger than this bullshit you keep faking.

Those chinks in your armor

Can’t stop you from being far more.

Just free your soul

And let it go.

Untether those ties that bind your mind

To the darkness that’s inside.

Unleash the knots anchored too tight

And let ‘em go.

Just let it go.

Why you equating your strength

To someone else?

You carry your own weight

All by yourself.

You fill your heart

From a different source of wealth.

Stop blaming the same shit

For your mental health.

Just free your soul

And let it go.

Untether those ties that bind your mind

To the darkness that’s inside.

Unleash the knots anchored too tight

And let ‘em go.

Just let it go.

Let it go.

Midnight Blues

Then my heavy eyes flash open

the darkness crowding all around

you’d think I’ve done enough mopin’

all my thoughts swirl without a sound

and I can’t help but think of him, his voice,

all the songs he used to play

I wonder if he made the right choice

now it’s just, come what may.

Silence is messing with my mind

many thoughts linger in my head

about the world that’s so unkind

“that’s life,” what my ma always said.

So I close my eyes

and in time

all the lies

just might die

because it’s midnight

all the blues will mend

in this enchanting light

in the certain end.

Just Jump

He reached for the gun

and he pulled the trigger

saying there ain’t a point

if he can’t be with her

Where did she come from

no one quite knows

but he licked her ear

until she curled her toes

They flew away together

when they jumped off that ledge

spiraling only down

pushing reality to it’s edge

Because she could never settle down

they only ran around town

holding hands through the park

kissing behind corners in the dark

Did this just end or start?

She used to pride herself on being smart

but she promised to never live with regret

so they went out to make memories

she’d never forget

A Most Useless Place

A place of waiting,

meditating,

self-deprecating and medicating,

pacing, and retracing

the moments past that did not last

for more than

that glass,

that drink,

that shot,

that beer;

smelling the masses of sweaty pounds

that surround

yet yearning and gunning for more –

more

to pour on open sores

like the gluttony of a king pounding a whore

having all the power to commence

on any aspiring endeavor with suspense

yet the sense

of some need to recompense

weighs down heavy on true desire;

apprehension and trepidation conspire

to stifle the flame

that creates the fire,

and leaves only

a lingering pause…

sad poetry
