A Savior in the Dark Sea

Finding hope through a glimmer of sun

Within my soul, a darkness pulling me under

No longer treading water, sinking faster

Each heartbeat, a drum within my ears

The water a silent witness to my defeat

From winter to summer, a transformation of life

Still the warmth of the sun has yet to reach me

Under the surface, watching, waiting

Yearning for a glimmer, a tiny sparkle of hope

Slowly, gently, the water changes, no longer silent

Pushing at me to move, to look above

In the darkness for so long, my eyes refuse to see

A spark of light upon the rough surface

The light I’ve longed for seems like a mirage

The sunlight finally shining, leading me up

Before I move, I feel the warmth

The sun breaking through the water, giving me life

The cold in my soul begins to melt

As currents guide me through a beam of light

My inner sun begins to shine

Tethering me to the world above

I’ve been away for far too long

Will the world still accept me

As the light guides to break through the surface

I almost sink again, fearful of the unknown

Just like the sunlight breaks the water

Shining deep into the limitless sea

It buoys me, renewing my hope

Acceptance only matters from myself

Today, like the sun, I break through the water

No longer just treading, but walking

Finding my way to the shore again

Letting the sunlight cleanse my soul

I like the contrast between start and finish here Krysta, and how the narrator's own mindset or mood shifts. From being "a silent witness to my defeat", they escape the water and are able to break free. Good luck in the challenge!

This felt like drowning and being saved in the same breath. Powerful imagery and quiet strength in every line. Beautifully written.
