A road of illusion

Astray

By P.A. WilkinsonPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Applaud the privileged

Who usher large crowds

Follow the rich

Who’s money leads us down

A meandering road of illusion

Smile for the funny

Who entertain us for now

Fall prey to the beautiful faces

That you always allow

To take you down the road of illusion

Praise the famous

Who you long to be like

Listen to the loud voices

Covered up in strife

They’re taking you down the road of illusion

Somewhere in the jungle

Of concrete and hustle

There are regular people

Building tough bone and strong muscle

To resist the temptation

Of the road of illusion

Your attention is valuable

Don’t be led astray

Seek out those who are struggling

To make it through today

For the path they have taken

Is one of deception

And your hand being offered

Could be their redemption

Fortune has paved a road

To keep you in delusion

It’s a long and meandering road

The road of illusion

Don’t be led astray

Great line. "A meandering road of illusion" suggests misdirection and getting lost. Perfect description.
