A Poem for Solstice
Guided meditation for the longest night

Winter Solstice spiral in the yard
Let us go down into the well
See the spiral stair
Curving down
Deep below
The stars
Take the torch down into the black
See the ice sparkle
Reflecting back
Our own light
To us
Bring the bucket down to the water
See as our shadows
Are looming up
To watch us
Draw drink
Break the surface down at the lip
See the ripples run away away
Circling out endless
And fading
Til still
Carry
The water
Up from the well
Step by step by step again
Up the coil of stairs into the cold
Feel it
The void’s mouth
Opening out under
The black sky above
Up beyond where light has ever gone
You’re there
In the center
The core and the heart
Of the whole frozen stone
Up the long night of the year
There’s light
Coming from you
Only you could give it
Radiating ever, eternally
Up and out, on and on and on.

This feels so ancient and ethereal.
