When the songs of my youth

Come floating back to mind

I wonder if you knew that

I ever called you mine

Thought we had a good run

Do you know what you’ve done

You burned me with the light

‘Cause I’d made you the sun

Did you ever stop to think

That maybe what I’d deserved

Is not what you could have

Prepared, cooked, and served

In your dim apartment

That’s where my heart went

Into my throat, thought I’d choke

We were divided by the moat

You put up when we broke up

You took my love and so casually chucked it

Into the garbage bin

That’s where my heart’s been ever since.

Glad I found a new love

Because when push came to shove

I couldn’t take anymore

Ultimately, I’m glad you walked out the door.
