Strike
the head rubs against the red phosphorous
spark
temporary
red orange flame engulfs the stick
Temporary fire
transforms from red orange to yellow
heat intensifies
energy to sustain life
the wick surrenders
Candles abound
flames of blue, orange-brown, and bright yellow
fills my box, dim yellow
I can finally relax
and read my book
