A New Generation

We Are Generation Z

By Adaline ArcherPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Everyone loves to judge Generation Z. The older generations, the millennials, the generation X, and even baby boomers love to criticize the our generation. They seem to forget who raised us.

They act as though we should be grateful for everything they have given us. What have we received? Anxiety levels that are the same as institutionalized patients in the 1800's and severe mental health problems, a massive pollution problem coupled with global warming, an unstable economy. They act as though they have the right to pick and choose what characteristics of our generation they take credit for.

No most of us do not remember the world before smartphones and Google, but that means we know how to use it. If we want to learn something, we know exactly where to go to find it. We can learn a new skill in a day, why is that looked at as a bad thing? We are highly connected but know when to disconnect.

Every generation has its members that are outliers, no one group is all the same. Yet, our generation is the most highly criticized by all prior generations.

They need to stop looking at us like we are children, the oldest of us are 25. No, we do not care what you had accomplished at the age of 25, for we are not you. We are money smart, digitally wired, and highly diverse. Yes, they have taught us many things but it is not what you may think.

It is from your ignorance that we learn acceptance.

It is from your detestation and racism that we learn adoration.

It is from your failures that we learn success.

We are not just a generation of mindless screen zombies. We are trying to right your wrongs, solve the problems that you created. We are intelligent, adaptive, and driven. We are the next generation, we are Gen Z.
