A Myriad Of Facets

Be You … But, Who Is That?

By Andrew C McDonaldPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read
Top Story - January 2025

A resolution

This Year I shall just be me

But, then… Who am I?

************************

Am I a husband?

A father? A grandfather?

Yes. But also so much more

************************

Am I a writer?

A spinner of tales, true - false?

A part surely is

***********************

Am I a brother?

Indeed I have four siblings,

Wish we all spoke more

************************

Am I someone’s son?

Let me ask them in Heaven

Am I still a son?

************************

Maybe someone’s sun

Perhaps someone’s moon and stars

I like to think so

************************

Am I a good friend?

I know some who would say so

And some who would not…

************************

I went to college

Graduated with honors

Am I a geek / nerd?

************************

I was in Army

Uniformed, travelled the world

Am I a soldier?

************************

I worked for police

9-1-1 for thirty years

An ex-dispatcher?

************************

I am a singer

I am a spinner of tales

Son, Dad, Husband, Friend

************************

I am all of these

I am also so much more

People are complex

************************

I’m a counselor

A teacher to all who listen

A student of life

************************

I’m a myriad

Many facets, good and bad

All make me… human

************************

So, to top it off

We are all, each, many things

That’s why we’re people

************************

Figure yourself out

Single facet at a time

Then just be yourself

***********************

You too are human

Be who you are my readers

Let your facets shine

************************

Do you like to dance?

Then dance till you fall down

Then… play a new song

************************

Do you enjoy books?

True, fiction, mystery, sci fi, crime

Then read what you like

************************

Skate, walk, run, or veg

On the couch or on the field

So long as it’s you

************************

Shakespeare said it best

Quote, “To thine own self be true”

This we can resolve

As Our Myriad Facets Coalesce - We Become

……………….Happy 2025 to all my vocal readers, writer’s and friends…………

Kudos to the writer, we are just human beings with differrent faces on different places. I wonder in this day of AI if we produce a machine with all these accolades.

Great job. To thine own self be true is how I strive, each day, to live. Like me or not. You know “your opinion of me, is none my business” is that how the saying goes?

Wow, Andrew! I don't know why but this piece made me emotional on this end of the screen. I think your line, "Am I still a son?" broke me a little (in a good way, though.) Thank you for writing and sharing this piece. It was brilliant to read.
