A Much Anticipated Adventure

What will I see, who will I meet

Today, I’m heading for an adventure

One in where I don’t leave my home,

I’m so excited to meet the new people

The cities, countries where they roam.

***

I wonder where we’re heading today

It looks to be an ancient countryside,

Trees glowing in their autumn dress

Will we be walking or going for a ride?

***

The hills of rockery look time worn

A mountain climber’s wish and delight,

A perfect climbing natural structure

And I’m sure the view would be a sight.

***

Is that an ancient temple way up high

Perched precariously on top of rocks,

Or is it someone’s abode, trying to hide

If I arrive will it be chained and locked?

***

Perched on the rocks near the old temple

Is the mother of nature’s blooming trees,

It’s got to be hundreds of years of age

Towering over land and all that breathes.

***

In the background there’s a large hill

And an old castle or so it seems to be,

Surrounded by autumn’s colouring

Fields of golden grains and umber trees.

***

I see flocks of birds flying and soaring

Different groupings there way up high,

I’m too far away to establish the breed

But it’s beautiful to see them as they fly.

***

Okay my decision has been fully made

This adventure is the one, I’ll take a look,

I am certain there’s more to see, to learn

As I gently open the first page of the book.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
