A Mother's Tale
by Claire Saldivar for Mother's Day

The daughter that once was stubborn as a mule.
Grew up to be quite a jewel.
She bore a son and raised another one.
Even if it was not part of her plan.
A Mother she became, opening her heart to fragility.
Exposed to days of hostility and humility.
She became an inconvenience to her sons.
A heartache that drums unable for her to shun.
But a Mother she will always be providing comfort like a shaded tree.
She looks at her own Mother
And she cannot help but ponder
Her Mother's days of selflessness and helplessness.
Days of kindness and brightness.
A stark reminder that motherhood is a gift filled with emotions like a ship adrift.
So she spent her days basking in her own mother's glow, living a life that is quite apropos.
Loving, caring, reminiscing, learning, thanking
Hoping one day that she can be just as outstanding.
