one day my dear child

you are going to understand

that i love you can sting like

a cut, sharp and clean.

as you draw in time and breath to recover

you’ll see through its pointed tongue

to the honeyed care lurking beneath

you’ll soon find be careful don’t

do that, you stupid child

had nothing to do with you

and everything to do with holding you

safe from the world.

one day as you see your own heart

sleeping in your arms vowing to love

like you weren’t loved

you are going to see those thorns

that embraced you were laced with longing too.

scarred and burned you’ll come to

see they loved you with the fire of

a thousand suns longing to

see you light up the darkness.

one day child you’ll discover

love isn’t always sweet

it’s sour and angry too

one day you’ll see through your pain

to theirs, breaking your heart before

it mends

Let’s not suffer in silence. Let’s use our words. Let them drip from the screen to move our hearts, challenge our minds, and enrich our time. Here are mine. Really looking forward to reading what others have to say.
