미 (beautiful) 국 (country) 미국 (America)
stay out of it
mind my own business
that country that shone
so bright with hope
was never mine.
make no comment.
walk on by and do not worry
about the dying of her light.
so what if she called the wretched and poor
lifting her lamp to that golden door.
so what if she dared to shout for a better world
and preach a dream of hard fought unity.
beautiful and powerful ideals
from the yes we can to the hill we climb
that captured the world
and encouraged us all
to strive for some better day.
that country was never mine.
it’s absolutely none of my business.
but i sure did love watching her shine for a while.
