A Misfit Among the Misfits

This poem is about being an individual and not conforming to fit in with your peers. It’s also about being antisocial and enjoying time alone.

I am a misfit among the misfits.

I don't fit in anywhere.

No group of friends wants me.

I make friends with a few,

And the rest hate me.

At least I get to pick and choose who is in my life.

I would rather be loved for who I am.

I am done wearing masks.

It got me nowhere.

I am sick of faking it to impress others.

I clean up pretty well,

But then the demons come out of my head.

Like Medusa.

I will turn myself to stone.

What I learned from this isolation is,

Always be true to yourself.

Most people are jerks.

The popular crowd has no heart,

And social acceptance rules that make no sense.

I also refuse to follow the rules of others.

I am the leader in my own life.

I do not accept commands from others.

I am better off reading a book alone,

Then trying to adapt myself to this social circus.

I will invite my cat and a bottle of red wine only to my house party.

They will make the best company.

Avoiding human interaction,

Comes easily to me.

Those that have broken through my shell,

And have earned my trust I hold dear.

I would walk over burning bridges for these souls.

I change myself for no one,

And am set in my ways.

I am stubborn and moody.

I hate myself at times,

But I don't want to die.

A light bulb breaks.

I go back to sleep.

I will always be a misfit among the misfits.

I am okay with this.
