A love affair

A poem

In the midst of a passionate love affair

My attitude is laissez faire

I can’t think of anything else

Except this darling dear

When I am happy, sad or in a mood to contemplate

I just want to call my love to recalibrate

It’s a roller coaster ride

A dopamine high followed by

A self-loathing why?

Do I do this to myself?

Inevitably I decide to end it

There are tears

I try the substitutes in despair

Stevia

Monkfruit

Xylitol from the tree of birch

And I gotta say

Not to besmirch the birch

But these other options are only good for a one night vegan cupcake stand

He lures me back with his beckoning hands

Whispering sweet somethings with his charms

I fall back into his arms

He is intoxicating - enticing – alluring- addictive

I soothe myself that I don’t care

About the consequences of this love affair

For he is my beautiful - irreplaceable

Girth gaining

Skin ageing

Insulin pumping

Inflammatory

Artery clogging

Heart stopping

True love of my life

The lure of the bad boy is too strong

If you listen closely

You’ll hear the throng

of sighs of rapture

As I bring to my lips

My chocolate brownie

Red velvet cake in my grip

Chocolate coated

Cream-filled

Darling donut and almost against my will

I fall back in love with this honey of mine

Processed and refined.

WHITE.

SUGAR.
